While this doesn't answer your question which probably is indicative of
a bigger problem, padevchooser is deprecated upstream and is no longer
supported. It works in a strange way and is quite broken in several ways
(conceptually).
It's use is generally to be discouraged.
That said, it does have some useful features that are not yet in
pulseaudio core or pavucontrol, such as the notification popups. This
will be resolved in the future.
