I can only apologise fro not commenting on the Mdv bug report before....
don't know how I missed that one :(

Building from SVN is quite easy, but be warned that you need a few
patches to 0.9.9 to make everything work OK.

You can have a look at the patches we apply in Mandriva by installing
the Source RPM or looking in our subversion repo for the package here:
http://svn.mandriva.com/cgi-bin/viewvc.cgi/packages/cooker/pulseaudio/current/

I'd imagine your problems relate in some capacity to the emu10k1
driver/card but I'm not overly familiar with this h/w so perhaps other
users here may have more info.
