I have a couple of questions.. I'm kinda new to kernel hacking :-)
I have a MSI K7 MasterS motherboard, (see lspci SNIP#1 below), I'm
currently running a pretty much stock RH8.0 setup, with some stuff
upgraded to support current rawhide kernels
kernel-2.4.20-2.2 Thu Jan 2 14:36:39 2003
mkinitrd-3.4.33-1 Thu Jan 2 14:36:21 2003

hwdata-0.64-1 Thu Jan 2 14:36:18 2003
kernel-source-2.4.20-2.2 Thu Jan 2 14:28:36 2003
modutils-devel-2.4.22-1 Mon Dec 30 13:49:28 2002
modutils-2.4.22-1 Mon Dec 30 13:49:28 2002
kernel-2.4.18-19.8.0 Mon Dec 23 16:01:03 2002
I have been having problems with the IDE interface, especially when
using hdc=ide-scsi in grub.conf for my TDK VeloCD burner. I have learned
that this is pretty common with this Via chipset :(
Here's what might happen when, say, adding packages with
redhat-config-packages.....
CD-ROM locks up, eject button doesn't work, system at 100% CPU. Not
hung, but very very slow. See SNIP #2
kernel 2.4.20-2.2 doesn't boot at all.... :( It can't seem to load the
device driver modules, hence can't mount /proc or anything else and
panics. Stock Linus 2.4.20 kernel, same problem.
kernel 2.4.12-19.8.0 (my current kernel) seems to have problems in this
area too, see SNIP #3. It boots though. I'm writing this email on top of
it! :0
Anyone have any advice on how to proceed?
Adam
PS. RedHat employees. How does per-incident support cost for this kind
of "incident"???
