KDE and Gnome (and many other applications) now use the xft library for 
font handling. You can either add the new font path to 
/etc/fonts/fonts.conf, put the fonts in the system font path 
(/usr/share/fonts/)(Added subdirectories are also scanned), or put them 
in the users font path (~/.fonts).

Then simply run fc-cache like so:
/usr/bin/fc-cache -f -v /path/to/added/fonts

The fonts should then be available.

This is also detailed in the Release Notes:
$ grep -A 10 Xft /usr/share/doc/redhat-release-8.0/RELEASE-NOTES-i386
