It's just there for the (volunteer) administrators to keep track of legitimate incoming email. The most tedious bit is to check the pending incoming and delete all the spam (99.5%) and let through real email (e.g. reporting problems). When I first got started I got a bit glazed-eye and accidentally deleted a couple of non-spam.
