I have a Sony PRS-950 which, at 7", is a relatively large (for e-ink)
reader. It has native PDF support. For literature it is wonderful, but
technical documents with tables and formatted code it's not very good.

Sony is supposed to be working on an A-4 sized e-ink reader/tablet:

This would be more than adequate for tech books, hopefully Sony can
