I would try:
master.cf:
smtpd [...]
-o virtual_mailbox_domains=example.com,example.org
main.cf:
virtual_mailbox_domains=example.com,example.org,example.internal
- this way the submission service would recognize all of the 3 domains,
while inbound smtpd only 2 of them and so it's respective *restriction
could hit rejection.
