I was trying LyX and noticed some unexpected errors when making PDFs of
the splash doc and the Introduction section of the on-line help:
[...]
! LaTeX Error: File `booktabs.sty' not found.
! Font T1/ppl/m/n/17.28=pplr8t at 17.28pt not loadable: Metric (TFM)
file not found
! Math formula deleted: Insufficient symbol fonts.
[...]
Also some other sty files where missing (sorry, I didn't take note of
the whole list...)
All works flawlessly after the installation of texlive_texmf-minimal,
that isn't listed among lys' dependencies...
