Hi ports@,

I'm re-pinging with an updated port, attached:
- remove one patch that wasn't needed
- rework patch to Makefile to be less intrusive for upstream
- incorporate updates to new release (thanks okan@ for this)

I've submitted a pull request to the upstream with my patches.
