As another data point, i JUST now ran into this. only --disable-gpu works around having a black screen. I've been running openbox and using compton for composite since chrome started having the original redraw issues when no composite manager was available. yes, i feel a bit dirty for letting chrome cause me to run something that changes a little bit of everything (can't bloody-well write root-tail very easy anymore)...i digress. The last snapshot I had on this machine is a feb 2 set with the x sets being dated Jan 30th. Chromium was working fine.
