I had been using v 0.9.9.5, installed manually. All seemed to build and
run fine without autoconf/automake/libtool, i.e. just with
xapian/gmime/gmake/emacs. Perhaps MODGNU_AUTO{CONF,MAKE}_DEPENDS can be
dropped from BUILD_DEPENDS (along with associated pre-configure stuff)?
Though this is certainly not my area of expertise, so perhaps there are
obvious reasons for including them that I'm overlooking.
Also agree that --disable-{gtk,webkit,guile} are good defaults.
Building the mu4e frontend is also a good default (I suspect most use
it, though as others have pointed out, mu can be used standalone).
