That seems reasonable to me. FWIW, i don't like the idea to built (or even define) more than one flavour of groff. That seems like overkill just to deal with such relatively rarely-used features. If nobody beats me to it (you are welcome to), i'll include this sentence in the groff-1.22.2 update (sorry for missing release by being too busy elsewhere; then again it's not a real problem, our groff-1.21p8 is nearly as good, 1.22 mostly has a few minor new features).
