lang/pfe is still broken on i386 and only on i386.  It has some
i386-specific optimizations such as tying a variable to a particular
register, which causes gcc to error out when it later runs out of
registers.  Probably the best course would be to disable all
i386-specific optimizations and just use the generic code.

Can somebody look into this?
