Without a fair amount of testing across multiple archs, and the required peer review (OK's from other developers), changes and/or additions are not committed. Getting the needed "OK's" from other developers can often take a lot of time, in fact, getting the required peer review done is often more difficult than the porting. Years ago I personally went on a personal perl port updating spree, only to find out that I had duplicated work that had already been done by the maintainers which was simply waiting for the required OK's before being committed. Posting my updates to ports@ only annoyed the folks quietly working to get the required OK's done and have their patches committed. -- J.C. Roberts
