Aaron,

Hopefully you can learn from my mistakes...

It takes time. Without a fair amount of testing across multiple archs,
and the required peer review (OK's from other developers), changes
and/or additions are not committed. Getting the needed "OK's" from
other developers can often take a lot of time, in fact, getting the
required peer review done is often more difficult than the porting.

Years ago I personally went on a personal perl port updating spree,
only to find out that I had duplicated work that had already been done
by the maintainers which was simply waiting for the required OK's
before being committed. Posting my updates to ports@ only annoyed the
folks quietly working to get the required OK's done and have their
patches committed.
