It totally varies from case to case, author to author. If I contact
someone about getting useful license terms, I try to make it clear that
_any_ license thats lets us redistribute and make the changes we need
to fit the software into ports would be just fine - standard licenses
preferred over homebrew, but I stay away from suggesting anything in
particular. For individual free software developers, this usually
works quite well (this method tries to avoid getting into flamewars
with people fanatic about a particular license). For companies...
well, you're often lucky if you get a response.

If you don't get any useful response, and the software is generally
quite useful, PERMIT_*=No. But in that case, also look for suitable
alternatives with better licenses that might be more useful.
