looking into upgrading the port, the current port fixes a bunch str* calls and those have since been accepted upstream. the thing is more have been introduced since - so the question is to again patch (and send upstream) the new ones, or just leave the new ones as-is and wait for upstream to patch (after sending them the patches of course)?
