I've tried to use pop3d in the past, but found abuse would make the service crash often enough to be a problem. I was also kind of turned off by the lack up recent upstream updates. I've since moved to running popa3d on localhost as an inetd service, fronted by relayd. That works much better. I won't miss pop3d.
