I don't know where people get the idea to use -U from. It keeps coming up somehow but when our docs tell people to update packages it's always "pkg_add -u". -U is a special case for when you want to try to get some particular _new_ package installed but don't care too much if it doesn't work because you haven't updated dependencies properly. It is not for updates.
