These three ports are similar to the "8" versions, a bit modernized. Some changes in Tcl9 will break scripts, although most should be ok. Extensions compiled against 8 cannot be loaded into 9. Tcl retains binary compatibility only between minor versions. (Many Tcl extensions in the wild have already been updated to work with 9) At least one extension, "Thread", is so different for 9 that it's a whole other extension! So we'll have tclthread and tcl9thread. For the next obsd release I'd like: - To put 9 in. - To get as many ports as possible onto 8.6. (some ports are stuck on 8.5 - maybe forever) - Leave the default MODTCL_VERSION as it is. For the release after that, I'd like to try to move everything to 9. Stu
