It looks like synapse should be patched to use this:

synapse/http/client.py:import multipart

there is a fallback, but it's rather ugly.

It seems it's only in synapse/http/client.py

I agree, but I feel this needs to be done upstream, and not in the ports system. It's not if it was going to change backwards any time.
