hi, while testing irssi 1.4, i found out there was a wip plugin for matrix, (https://codeberg.org/ticho/irssi-matrix) so might aswell port it (and its dep, a maintained fork of matrix-glib by the same upstream) - its mentioned on the irssi relnotes at https://irssi.org/2022/06/12/irssi-1.4.1-released/
