I can't, a reason that is not obvious to me:

[hostname]# make obj
mkdir: /usr/obj/sys: Permission denied

'obj': @cd /sys/arch/amd64/compile/GENERIC.MP;  umask 007;
here=`/bin/pw...)

make obj was run from an su session.
