ok, for the archives.
the files are not corrupt (or so it seems).

the main reason i was thinking otherwise is the following:
BT puts placeholders in the files which i thought are exclusively
of the form "BitTorrent - this part has not been downloaded yet"

so i thought that when i see binary garbage in a text file,
that's it for the file, it's corrupt.

another wrong assumption.
