It's the platform that the bjam build detects.

It's hardcoded in Makefile...

When building bjam you can invoke:

        LOCATE_TARGET=bin ./build.sh gcc

To have it put the resulting binary into a consistent "bin" subdirectory. This is what the boost-jam.spec RPM script does.
