You can’t really miss with most HP printers. These are generally well
supported under Linux in CUPS and HPLIP

(Also in most distro repos). Scanner support sometimes takes a proprietary blob
plugin, but that is fairly well automated in HPLIP. I know some here despise
HP laser printers but they have never let me down - so far.
Make sure to check the supported printers list esp. if you repo has an older
version.
