One last comment on using protonvpn config files with openvpn...

Thank you King Beowulf for the helpful openvpn script which uses the protonvpn configs.

Careful testing has shown that there is a bad DNS leak when the import mechanism is used in OpenSuse Leap 15.5 network manager to import the openvpn protonvpn config file and add it as a vpn connection underneath the menu selector.

One run showed that ONLY the Cloudflare DNS was being accessed, not the DNS paired with the protonvpn config file. There are leaks occurring. Even the Google DNS occasionally showed up.

However using openvpn itself, using the bash script provided by King Beowulf shows that the vpn is secure and working as intended and staying paired with the DNS server intended by the protonvpn config to accompany the vpn tunnel.

I am going to have to talk to the Network section part of the OpenSuse Community and see if this problem can be fixed.
