I assume you have changed cables and tried a different SATA port (if you have one). Perhaps my tale of woe about me first Linux computer would give an insight. I had a brand new Compaq laptop with Ubuntu Breezy Badger. Everything worked fine except I began noticing corrupted files. The corruption would happen only once every few months. I kept checking the disk, but it came up clean. I even replaced the disk, but the occasional corruption continued. Through it all I never got any error messages and it always booted without error. It took a long time, but I finally figured out that there had to be a fault on the motherboard. The hard disk plugged into a connector that was soldered to the bottom of the motherboard, so if the disk was clean, then it had to be the connector or one of the traces on the motherboard. The warranty was only one year and, even if it had extended to the point when I finally figured out the problem, the problem occurred so seldom that Compaq would have had a hard time finding it. I checked on the availability of a replacement motherboard, but the cost was more than the remaining value of the laptop, so I just replaced it with a Thinkpad, famous for their reliability and compatibility with Linux. I always disliked that Compaq anyway. I hope your problem is easier to resolve than mine was. I only wanted to point out that the problem may be deeper and more insidious than you thought. _______________________________________________ PLUG mailing list [email protected] http://lists.pdxlinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug
