Linux has had open-source accessibility software for decades.  in the last
few years there have been a few linux distro's that have popped up that
integrate all the bits and pieces.  check out, for example:

Vinux
Talking Arch
Sonar

most of the big distro's Debian and Fedora etc. will have numerous
assistive technologies packages in their repositories. its been awhile
since in played with this stuff.

 there will be a learning curve....
