It is worth mentioning that you can apt-get install into the Ubuntu
live CD, as in, boot cd, open term, apt-get install... right into ram,
adds it to the system, just like running from a hard drive.  boot,
install openssh-server, ssh into the box.

I need cheap/light hardware to run some linux apps: mainly sshd and
dvgrab, and talk to a 100mbs eathernet and firewire.  firewire is the
curve ball, but i found:

One thought is: I bet I can find 802.11b APs for cheap.  that is a good size.
