While trying a few things like trying Ubuntu desktop and server loaded on a spare HD in my system... the drive is no longer a spare :(
My ASUS motherboard appears NOT for follow the BIOS setup info and things are a little messy now. I have IDE 320GB drive, a 320GB SATA drive and a SATA DVD in the system. The system was booting off of the SATA HD running XP. I had setup a dual boot to Ubuntu Desktop and then decided to look into Ubuntu Server. I set the SATA HD to DISABLE. Set the IDE to the bootable HD after the DVD and NO 3rd option was spec'd. I tried to bail ( unsuccessfully ) when I thought it was going to nuke the SATA drive... Now If I unplug the IDE the system will not boot, even after I spec the SATA drive. With the SATA drive selected and the IDE plugged in I get '2' boot screens #1 is to pick one of the Ubuntu Server versions or XP. Then pops up the selection for Ubuntu Desktop or XP. I want to get back to just the SATA drive and XP. I was doing some reading and is it as simple as recovering the MBR using XP? AFTER I backup all my XP stuff?
