Personally, I love buying 'refurbs' be they from Antec, Dell, Apple,  
whomever. Typically, refurb will mean that some defect was found  
during or after manufacturing, or the product was returned 'in like  
new condition'. The manufacture can not legally sell it as new then.  
So they will test and fix any issues, and sell the repaired item as  
refurbished.

Yes, it can be a bit of a gamble, but most manufactures also offer the  
same warranty on their refurbs as they do on the new product. In  
particular, I know Apple gives the same one year service contract on  
refurbs, extendable with Applecare. Exactly the same as if you pay  
full price on the 'Store' website.
