Thanks for the suggestion, Joe. It took a while to hunt up and install a
parallel port card. Once that was done I first verified that it works when
accessed by dom0. I then deallocated it from dom0 and added a PCI entry in
the domU definition. DomU won't start, however, issuing the message "failed
to assign device: maybe the platform doesn't support VT-d, or VT-d isn't
enabled properly". This is an dual core AMD Opteron Processor 1220, which I
believe has AMD's current virtualization technology. (There are more
details including the processor flags in my original e-mail, or I can repost
them if that would be helpful.) Any idea where I'm going wrong?
