Turned out to be a mis-configuration of /etc/ssh/sshd_config.

Thanks!!

What was the misconfiguration? Please share the details, so others can
learn from your experience

When I opened /etc/ssh/sshd_config there was no AllowUsers. So I added it to the bottom of the file. I only added the user that I was going to use for ssh/owner of the Docroot.

I was then unable to SSH into my server, as I recall, by the new user.

When I initially installed Ubuntu 24.04lts server it asked me for a user and password. I had to add that user to the new AllowUsers line in the /etc/ssh/sshd_config file. At that point I was able to SSH into the server using either username.
