I completely agree, @rkflx. For just this reason, 10 years ago Apple changed the window shadows to be super super gigantic: https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2007/10/mac-os-x-10-5/3/ F5429828: leopard-window.png <https://phabricator.kde.org/F5429828> It was a bit controversial at first, but eventually people really liked it for exactly the reason you indicate: it provided a great sense of depth. I always make Breeze shadows as huge as possible to try to emulate this. Programmer-types like us often underestimate just how hard it is for many people so know which window is in the active one. Anything we can do ti make it more obvious, without becoming garish, IMHO is worth it.
