Kanboard (todo.kde.org) now supports email notifications. These aren't enabled by default. To enable them to : go to https://todo.kde.org click your username in the top right click new entry "Email Notifications" in the sidebar.
It seems it only sends emails for boards you subscribe to, even if you're the assignee of a task in a different board. Thanks to Ben & Victor for sorting this out. David
