Update: I know what's wrong. And I fixed it. It was a simple forgotten string, which tried to load "org.kde.desktop" containment as default while the default containment is actually "org.kde.desktopcontainment".
As to why it was working for everyone else - either stale files around or your config files are to "blame" as that value is first read from config file, only if it reads nothing, it reverts to the default string, which was wrong.
