I would start with bugfixing. It helps you to know the code and you will discover where help is needed.
you will have to setup a development enviroment: http://techbase.kde.org/Getting_Started it is easier than it looks like on the wiki. then you can go an look at the bugs in plasma: https://bugs.kde.org/component-report.cgi?product=plasma There are many JuniorJobs open.
