Typically we don't bring features into bugfix releases. This would be something unexpected for downstream that may want to disable it.
This could be a special case because of the significant benefit it could bring KDE — so unlike other features I don't think it's impossible, but you'd need to convince a lot of people and very thoroughly test it, and then we should advise downstream that we've introduced this.
