There is an existing maliit plugin that's VERY old that has the
functionality. I'll see if I can find it from my history.

yeah, swipe typing is something that should really be in there upstream,
tough if that proves to be very difficult i guess it *might* be possible to
putan item that filters events on top of the rest, then if is possible somehow
to query what key is under a certain coordinate, swiping can be implemented
there
