You hit the nail on the head here. The fact is, I can't, as discussed with Richard Dale on IRC. I tried, looking at the code of the various applets (each seems to do things in a slightly different way) to make a popup, but it doesn't seem to work: however, since there is no simple example of a popupapplet around I'm unsure if it's the binding to have problems or if I'm doing something wrong.
