i don't think this is a distinction most users are capable of reliably making. this is why the dock concept as see on *Step and MacOS works at all, it seems :) > and there would be too long menus. submenus menus from growing too long. and if the application's window is in a state that it wouldn't show on the task bar (e.g. amarok's main window is closed) then we'd end up with exactly the same representation we get in the system tray today (just the one menu) with the added benefit that "amarok" is always represented in the same place. if we merged quicklaunch with it, we'd have a dock implementation for all intents and purposes. personally, i think that should be a different widget because it really is a different workflow entirely, but it is similar in the sense of trying to aggregate information about an application rather than segregate it. the notifications thing is interesting because it is really hard to aggregate that information with other application representations effectively due to their size, frequency and temporary nature. -- Aaron J.
