is it really a symmetric activity though?

ok, real-world-examples time:

a painting on canvas.
you put some ocher paint in the sky of your landscape masterpiece.
you change your mind and want to remove it.
do you go back and dip your brush in the ocher on your painter's palette?

a spark plug in a car.
you go to the store to buy the spark plug.
the spark plugs are all kept in a big bin together
you install the spark plug in your car.
it breaks.
do you go back to the bin at the store to remove it?

i don't think the activity is symmetric.
