I can understand the branding though, otherwise you can't differentiate a distrib A to a distrib B. But is it really what the end user want? no, he just want something that works, cool, new, and beautiful.
I have also many friends asking how to remove the opensuse logo and instead use KDE one for the K Menu. For me now, what makes a difference between distrib A and distrib B is what it is inside. Branding and so, i simply don't care because like most of users i remove the default wallpaper, the default theme and all the default layout of the panel to match to my own workflow and my habits. So by "what is inside" i mean packages quality, graphical tools for end users to set up network, graphic card and so. Those tools has to be easy to use and then i install this distrib to my friend or tell them that is a good choice to start.
