I've been having more issues with windows that stop updating/drawing (but still take input), and I noticed I had very little ram left (including my massive swap), so I checked htop for the big users, it happens to be X right now, its sitting at a cool 1397M virt and 370 res. then I checked xrestop for the highest pixmap users, and it seems this entry is for plasma:
