I'm currently working on packaging Gradle 8.11 for Debian so I would suggest not putting too much work on downgrading the build scripts. Instead you may want to prepare for the update by checking or fixing the build with a binary distribution of Gradle 8.11, and watch one of the gradle bugs or the work in progress there [1 [1]] for updates. Also keep in mind that I'm still far from being done with it and it may take a few more weeks before it appears in unstable or even experimental.
I have no problem waiting a few months for this being updated. The issue is getting addressed and there's a workaround. It's just that I would like to know if an upgrade is being developed. Which seems the case.
