You can override parts of your php.ini on a per-directory level with a
.htaccess file...
eg:
<IfModule mod_php4.c>
php_flag register_globals off
php_flag magic_quotes_gpc on
php_flag magic_quotes_runtime on
php_flag magic_quotes_sybase on
</IfModule>
