It's simple, which is one thing I like about it. My submit.php looks like
this:

header('Location: ' . $_REQUEST['target']);
reset ($_REQUEST);

case "PHPSESSID":
break;

$_SESSION[$key] = $value;

Then to send a new value for a variable, I just have link that looks like
<http://www.domain.com/submit.php?variable=3>.
