I wrote a Color gradient in GD it is actually very simple. Though you need GD 2.x and mine is designed to go from left to right changing the color to the center line then changing it back to the edge. If your interested let me know and I'll send you a code snippet. Though I would like to see someone who can show me how to do a gradient oval, I can do it in my image editing software so there must be a formula to do it I just need to know what it is.
