$HTTP_SESSION_VARS works, as will $_SESSION (after 4.1.0). These "special" PHP variables are described in the manual: http://www.php.net/manual/en/language.variables.predefined.php Some words specific to $_SESSION are available within here: http://www.php.net/release_4_1_0.php An excerpt: Another neat trick is that creating new entries in the $_SESSION array will automatically register them as session variables, as if you called session_register().
