Todd, I endorse Brian's recommendations. Fetching the installation docs for Apache is a good idea too. Use "Soothingly Seamless" as the general guide, adding the switches/modules that seem to make sense based on your reading of the Apache and MySQL installation docs. One little quirk. When you install MySQL from source the path to it is different than when you install it from an rpm. One of them, and I can't remember which, adds an extra directory layer. But really, go with the compile from source.
